Cascais is a wonderful resort for those who enjoy a selection on their holidays, offering on one hand, the fascinating town centre with it's ornate buildings, churches and statues for you to peruse during your holidays. Whereas on the other hand it brings to the table miles of sandy beaches for you to lounge upon in the sumptuous sunshine that is so prevalent here.
Cascais is not a host to many great shopping opportunities, however a variety of bars and exceptional restaurants are on offer, which can be found exploring the cobblestone streets for you to sip a cocktail whilst watching the Portuguese world go by. Holidays aside from the beach often include visits to the 'Mouth of Hell', a rock formation to be visited on the route to Guincho's beach; one particularly popular for surfers.
Lisbon is the nearest airport, 20 minutes drive away. British Airways (amongst others) has regular charter flights to Lisbon, low-cost airlines such as EasyJet also fly frequently. The short-haul journey is less than 1000 miles (1600 km) and therefore the flight time is between 2 hours 30 minutes and 3 hours. Dozens of flights depart the UK for Lisbon everyday, most major airports in the UK have daily trips.
Holidays to Cascais are incomplete without visiting architecture like the 16th-century church with it's gilded woodwork and famous paintings. The Cascais Amunicipal Museum is also very attractive, housed within a palace. The Sea Museum is another favourite, with everything to do with the waters from model boats to fishermen's boots. Other architecture includes the Fort of Cascais, which dates back to the same era as the church. The Fort offers a fantastic vantage point as well as an uncovered artillery museum, which makes a wonderfully interesting day out during your holidays. Visits to Cascais would be almost incomplete without visiting the neighbouring resorts, Estoril for the nightlife and excitement and to the ever popular Sintra for rest, relaxation and to admire the classical scenery.
